Prof. Dr. Marcus Bentin
Prof. Dr. Marcus Bentin has served as a Professor of Ship Technology at the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer since 2009. For over a decade, he has also held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Sciences, where he has been instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of the Leer campus and its academic programs.
His academic profile is uniquely multidisciplinary, combining a background in Business Administration with a degree in Naval Architecture. He earned his doctorate at Hiroshima University in Japan, an experience that continues to drive his passion for international academic cooperation and global research initiatives.
In addition to his administrative leadership, Prof. Dr. Bentin is an active researcher and educator. He has managed high-impact projects, such as the 4.7 million Euro "DecomTools" initiative, and currently supervises doctoral candidates in partnership with the Technical University of Berlin and the University of Vechta. His teaching portfolio spans classical engineering subjects like ship design and stability to cutting-edge topics involving optimization tools and Artificial Intelligence.
Throughout his tenure as Dean, he has prioritized the internationalization and modernization of the faculty. This includes the successful accreditation of all Bachelor’s and Master’s programs, the launch of English-language degrees, and the implementation of ISO 9001-certified change management processes.
Beyond the university, he maintains strong ties to the maritime industry and political spheres. He represents the faculty in major organizations like the German Society for Maritime Technology and has established key strategic partnerships with industry leaders, including Volkswagen (VW) in Emden, to foster innovation and regional excellence.
